The overall picture remains positive, but for this newly started August, Italian hotels report a slowdown. This is the summary of the first analysis of the high season conducted by Confindustria Alberghi.
The slowdown is primarily due to domestic demand, affected by various factors, including the resumption of travel abroad, which last year was still heavily conditioned by the Covid situation, and the effects of inflation.
On the contrary, international tourism continues its strong momentum, with a booking trend showing an average growth of 4% to 5% compared to August 2022. France, Great Britain, and Germany are leading in terms of nationalities, while from overseas, there is a notable influx of American, Brazilian, and Australian tourists.
The international component particularly benefits art cities, with Florence recording a 4.5% increase in arrivals compared to August 2022, while Rome shows a 4-point increase and Venice a 3.5% rise. The luxury segment also continues its very positive trend, experiencing further growth compared to 2022.
The increase in presence in beach resorts is less pronounced, with an average of 1.5% more foreign tourists and 0.5% more domestic tourism.
