December 11, 2023 – In a bid to escape the rising costs of a UK Christmas, millions of Brits are gearing up for warmer climes this December, according to recent research. A survey of 2,000 Brits conducted by easyJet Holidays found that 17% are planning to celebrate the festive season abroad.
With 73% of respondents stating that Christmas in the UK is becoming more expensive due to rising living costs, popular destination choices for an affordable overseas Christmas include Italy, Spain, and Cyprus.
In anticipation of this trend, easyJet Holidays, the UK’s fastest-growing holiday operator, has introduced a stylish and sustainable beachwear collection designed for the holiday season. The collection, in collaboration with independent fashion brand Burnt Soul, includes a one-piece bathing suit, a spandex two-piece top & shorts combo, and a longer-sleeve unisex option. These beachwear pieces feature eye-catching designs such as sunbathing snowmen, surfing reindeer, and sun-kissed Santas, inspired by the classic Christmas jumper trend.
Musical theater and Dancing on Ice star, Amber Davies, has been chosen as the model for this unique beachwear range, which is made entirely from recycled materials. The limited-edition beachwear is available on the easyJet Holidays website for £19.99, and the purchase price can be redeemed against future package holidays.
According to the research, half of the holidaymakers pack Christmas-themed attire and food for their trip, with Christmas jumpers being a popular choice (20%). However, 37% of respondents find festive knitwear too warm for European winter sun resorts.
In addition to festive clothing, Brits traveling abroad for Christmas also pack snacks like mince pies (19%), Christmas puddings (10%), and even panettone (5%). Board games (14%) and decorations such as mini-Christmas trees (17%), fairy lights (12%), and stockings (13%) also make their way into suitcases.
Brits abroad also keep the festive spirit alive by watching Christmas movies (36%) and listening to playlists filled with festive tunes (33%). Moreover, 12% of respondents plan to watch the King’s Speech on Christmas Day.
Matt Callaghan, Customer Director at easyJet Holidays, said, “We know that more and more of our customers are heading on a Christmas getaway as it can provide better value than staying in the UK, but that they will miss the festivities back home. That’s why we’ve decided to launch our brand new Christmas knit themed beachwear collection, made entirely of recycled materials, for those going abroad to keep the festive traditions we love alive.”
For those interested in this unique Christmas Jumper Beachwear range, it is available for purchase starting on Monday, December 11th, with a second drop on Monday, December 18th, at 12 pm. Visit the easyJet Holidays website for more information.
